BMO Air Miles World Elite Mastercard Card Details
Overview
The BMO Air Miles World Elite Mastercard is BMO Bank of Montreal's premium Air Miles credit card, issued on the Mastercard World Elite network. It carries a $120 CAD annual fee and earns Air Miles Reward Miles at elevated rates at Air Miles partner stores and on grocery spending. The card requires a minimum individual income of $80,000 CAD or household income of $150,000 CAD and includes World Elite travel and lifestyle benefits on top of the Air Miles earn rates.
Availability note (April 2026): Air Miles is transitioning to a new program called Blue Rewards in Summer 2026. BMO has confirmed that existing Air Miles balances will convert automatically to Blue Rewards points at approximately 16 Blue Points per 1 Air Miles Mile, and BMO Air Miles credit cards — including this World Elite card — will become BMO Blue Rewards World Elite Mastercards. New applications for the BMO Air Miles World Elite Mastercard are accepted until June 1, 2026. The new Blue Rewards World Elite card is expected to earn 10 Blue Points per $1 at participating Blue Rewards partners, 2 Blue Points per $1 on groceries and select everyday categories, and 1 Blue Point per $1 everywhere else.
Who this card is for
This card is for Air Miles collectors who qualify for the World Elite tier and want to earn miles at an accelerated rate through partner store spending and groceries. If you regularly spend at Sobeys, Rexall, Shell, or other Air Miles partners, the elevated partner earn rate drives meaningful accumulation. BMO banking clients who are already collecting Air Miles and want premium Mastercard benefits alongside their accumulation will find this card a logical upgrade from the no-fee BMO Air Miles Mastercard.
Key benefits
The card earns 3 Air Miles per $12 spent at eligible Air Miles partner stores — a higher rate per dollar than the standard card. Grocery store purchases and other eligible categories earn at enhanced rates as well. World Elite Mastercard benefits include comprehensive travel insurance, extended warranty, and purchase protection.
At partner stores, the earn rate represents meaningfully accelerated accumulation versus the base tier card. Air Miles (and the incoming Blue Rewards) are redeemable for flights, merchandise, gift cards, and statement credits.
The annual fee is waived in the first year for new applicants based on promotional offers available at time of application.
Potential drawbacks
The Blue Rewards transition introduces meaningful near-term change. The incoming program's partner earn rate of 10 Blue Points per $1 at partners translates to an implied yield increase at partner stores, but the grocery earn rate drops to 2 Blue Points per $1 — worth approximately 1.34% toward travel, down from the current Air Miles grocery rate of roughly 1.75%. If grocery spending is your primary category, the transition works against you slightly. The $120 CAD annual fee also requires consistent partner spending to justify.
How it compares
The BMO Cashback World Elite Mastercard earns 5% cashback on the first $500 per month in groceries and 4% on transit — a significantly higher grocery return — also at $120 CAD. If maximising cashback on groceries is your priority and Air Miles accumulation isn't your goal, the Cashback World Elite is the stronger option at the same fee. For committed Air Miles collectors who shop at partners frequently, this card earns faster than any alternative outside the Air Miles network.
Bottom line
A strong Air Miles partner-store card for qualifying collectors, but the Blue Rewards transition means the product you apply for today will change by Summer 2026. If you're a committed Air Miles collector and frequent partner shopper, applying before the June 2026 deadline lets you earn into the new Blue Rewards program from day one.
